This was a time when we needed our government, and our government — in the form of the brave fire fighters and police officers still battling the fires — has followed through. While true, the vast majority of our state taxes goes to other areas besides disaster response. The key is mobilization and communication, not more money. Experience helps too. I think one reason why Katrina was such a mess was because New Orleans never saw something like it in a very long time. Contrast this with California, where wildfires pop up all the time. Tenchusatsu
