How is saying "too much spending is the main problem" an attitude that will contribute to causing us to have "an ever bigger and ever more voracious big government"?

Or if your comment was centered on not being sure a balanced budget amendment is a good idea, well you can have a balanced budget with such a huge government, your just raise taxes. Or maybe you put in place regulations to force others to do what you want instead of spending government money on it. Or you put in place entitlements and loan guarantees instead of current spending (and if you say "well eventually it has to be paid for, well if it becomes too much of a crises the amendment can be overturned).

Basically a balanced budget amendment is pretty week as a way to restrain the growth of government. I'm not saying it has no effect but it isn't a very strong one.
