It's a very sad story. I can understand why you wouldn't want to see it.

I had reservations about it as a parent, too, but the circumstances are laid out in such a way, that it becomes the story of an idealist who chose to go his own extreme way. I can't say I felt sorry for him, some empathy, but no sympathy. He did what he wanted to do, albeit some was the naivete of youth.
Some would have a strong urge to slap the boy up side of the head.
I just thought it was a very well told story, albeit not a happy ending. It could provoke some robust debate between folks who are high on the idealism scale and folks who tend to be more practical.
It could also be guilt inducing among some parents who have messed up their kids through bad behavior and hypocrisy.
Narcissus was hard at work in this story, too.
