I'll definitely keep the board posted (even if it just turns out to be a legitimately dead hard drive) and would *highly* recommend anyone with PPC machines hold off on upgrading... there are just too many other people reporting similar or identical experiences specifically on PowerBooks and older iMacs to rule out a software/firmware problem.

The odds are probably 99% (maybe 99.9%) that things will go fine as there aren't hundreds of thousands of problems being reported in the forums. But if you're one of the unlucky few, you will sincerely wish you had waited. Just need to give Apple some time to sort through the issues as I'm sure they're swamped with calls right now.

At the risk of offending, around upgrade time I usually say something like this:

"Those early adopters who are about to die, we salute you!"

I've never been an early adopter, but...

I have seen how it can make people money (Allen) so I may have to start doing it in the future. Seems like it makes buying toys like the iPhone profitable because you learn everything first then hire out your knowledge.
