I'm well aware of the idea. However, to my knowledge, nobody has obtained any reliable results indicating any substance to the theory. On the other hand, there is a mountain of evidence against it.

I do know that Russians have made some deep discoveries, but AFAIK, they are linked to source rock. It is what they do very well at ignoring. Half a century of ideological nonsense under Marxism schooled them in the process I'm afraid. You might want to note that under Marxism, the Russians doubted Evolution as well, and the abiotic origin of oil theory was fleshed out in Russia at this time. I think there is a slight Denial of Biology problem there.

If in fact they show that sedimentary source is very unlikely AND they show no biomarkers, they would have some basis for their theory. Unfortunately, such does not seem forthcoming.
