Perhaps. The unemployment and alcoholism rate is pretty grim on Pine Ridge. It's too bad. We park them where there is no food or resources, make them totally dependent on the government to subsist and then wonder at the results on many of these reservations.

Find all the money that the BIA has stolen, lost or can't account for and give it back to the tribes. Give them their land and revenue from oil sales, etc and eliminate the BIA totally. It would be a huge step in the right direction IMO.

I did that in 1970 when I took a motor cycle across country. I had no problems, I guess they hadn't read the book yet.


You're lucky Russel Means didn't pop a cap on you.

The Wounded Knee battlefield is smack in the middle of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Maybe things have quieted down there, but there was a time when having a white face in that area was not a good thing.
