Corvair was originally designed by Rolls Royce Engineers. By its original design it was a fine car. By Detroit compromise it was less than great. Just goes to show how you can cheapen a good idea and make it bad. It needed an improved suspension and steering, radial tires, negative roll steering radius, better weight roll distribution fore and aft, and a 140 HP engine. (65+ Monza) Porsche could make that in a 4. Detroit had a hard time doing that in a 6. It's air cooled power is good in many ways but hard to handle for CO safety reasons. The little Volks 4's did it fairly well, but larger engines have always had difficulty.
