I have a lot of respect for you. I think the government has done some great things like the gi bill for example which enabled my father in law to go to college. It used to be that one could get a college education in this country without becoming an indentured servant.
Unfortunately the entire political system we have now is messed up. We elect representatives who run the best campaigns not those who will make the best decisions for our future. I think it was a horrible mistake to offer members of congress difference benefits than ordinary citizens get. the laws pertaining to that should be repealed yet i dont hear any congressmen speaking out to that purpose. just like term limits, it seems to have faded. Instead we have congressman trying to get building built which will be named in their honor. how despicable and vain is that? This at a time when our troops dont have enough resources to make them well upon their return from IRAQ. If members of congress had any integrity at all they would apologize for their poor decision making and leave. Of course i said that after the savings and loan fiasco too.

edited due to Wane's clarification of how he used the term "idiots" that i just read.

i wouldn't call those who run government idiots, though. they are very sophisticated business people who realized that bilking the public was the most efficient use of their time.

isn't capitalism* grand?

*yes, our system is the best system to date, but it has so many faults, it makes san andreas quiver in fear. no human government can succeed long term. the selfishness of the powerful will find a way to destroy it. look around and see if this isn't what is happening at every level of government.
