A second Carter term with another 4 years of 70% top marginal tax rates and we would have been well under way to eating up all the wild game in the country to keep from starving to death. Hell, Castro might have had the balls to invade Miami. Sure is fun to play "what if"....but give me Reagan any day.

How naive. It is clear that you never lived in the region. Colombians have long disliked us. I remember my first time living there is 60's and there were many signs back then saying Gringo go home. It was the same in the 70's and 80's. We never had a good reputation there. His South American policy was excellent. If Reagan hadn't started financing all the insurgencies in Nicaragua, Columbia, and Brasil the U.S. would probably still have a good reputation there instead of being the scapegoat for Hugo Chavez.
