I find that having to pay more interest because you might default will cause you to default. So, I defaulted. Also, I was living in a basement apartment in Chicago and the sewer backed up and wrecked all my wife's and my clothes, furniture and possessions so we had to move out essentially in the middle of the night. That night we stayed in a $40 a night hotel (where parts of the sheets were stiff, from what I remember) that had 2 different free porn channels. We moved into an apartment where my wife had a part time job so they cut her a break on the rent. The apartment was at 6830 N Sheridan Road, which is smack dab in the commute from Evanston and all towns north of Chicago into Chicago. We were on the second floor above the garage so everytime the garage opened up our apartment shook. The air conditioner didn't work there, at all. Now, we tried fans but since we were on the second floor, near a stop light, the city buses would stop at the light and shoot all of their deisel exhaust directly into our window. So in the summer it was real hot. Our first neighbor played the macarena one night till 2am when we pounded on the wall. He came over pissed, went back home and someone else called the cops on him. The cops found a gun and some drugs and we never saw him again. The next guys we walked over to ask them to have their kids stop banging pans together at midnight and 10 minutes later he came back to our apartment with a baseball bat threatening to beat my wife to death for insulting his family. I did get to see a drive-by shooting with probably several fatalities and one guy get run over by a car. I also got to witness one murder on the train tracks as well as someone pull a shotgun on another person. That part of my life really really sucked. There was NOTHING that can be learned from any of that experience I had over those 8 years aside from being broke really sucks.
