We could end up like some of the Euro nations in the early 90's - having to raise rates to astronomical levels to bring capital back in the face of a weak economy.

Gold has not even begun its ascent. Once the U.S. falls in flames other nations will catch contagion and begin to pursue U.S. style monetary policy, gold will assert itself as the ultimate currency.
