When I was a kid in grade school in NH we Pledged every morning and sang one patriotic song every morning. (Live Free or Die, baby.) Sometimes it was the Anthem, sometimes America the Beautiful, sometimes My Country 'Tis of Thee, depending on the choice of the person whose turn it was to lead that day. Everyone took a turn. (I used to know all the verses to all the songs. On my turns I'd sometimes sing one of the unfamiliar verses.)

But I don't recall anyone placing hand over heart for anything but the Pledge. Maybe we were in the wrong according to the Flag Code, but I can believe that Obama believes what he says about this -- that hand over heart is not mandatory for the Anthem. He's put hand over heart for the Anthem at other times; he knows it's customary in many circles.

Here's the vid. If you ask me, the real crime is in the caterwauling! It's staggering. Where's Simon Cowell when you need him?

I believe him. One of Hillary's minions probably created the hoax.

So Obama says that it wasn't the Pledge of Allegiance but rather it was the National Anthem being sung and Hillary, Richardson and Ruth Harkin are all placing their hands over their hearts when they really don't need to be doing that.

Uh huh.............got it.

Too bad someone didn't youtube it.

edit: Thanks Snowshoe for pointing out video. It's obviously a matter of choice whether you place your hand on your heart when the National Anthem is being played. I know I always place my hand on my heart when it's being played/sung at places like baseball games, football games. And so do most people around me. Obama is perfectly within his rights not to do so.

The proper procedure is that you "cover" your heart at BOTH the Pledge and the National Anthem. You may uncover either after either one is completed, OR after the Flag passes you by. That Obama as a Senator doesn't know that says something about him, and a lot about his mouthpiece.

There are multiple books about Flag procedures as a mark of respect.
