Electric cars won't make a damn bit of difference in the overall oil consumption picture in the US for MANY years at best. There are still problems with battery tech, and even IF that were to be solved over the next 10 years what would it take, 20-30 years before a major switch was made? What about the powerplants fueling these cars? I've had these discussions with Mindmeld on and off here for years. As for hybrids, that equation has gotten a bit better, but for the thousands more you pay and the hit you might eventually take from replacing the battery, the economics are still dubious in many cases, especially if you do more highway driving than city...
