A 1946 war between the US and Russia would have been fought between a US that had the A-bomb and a USSR that didn't. That much is a matter of historical record. The US and England did not have to cede Eastern Europe to the Soviet Empire. It was their choice to do so. That choice saved many American and English lives and cost Polish, Hungarian and other lives by the million.
