I agree with you on the dems led by the mannequin (pelosi) and the mouse (reid) and pulling all the presidential candidates, even those who know better like biden and hillary, into the abyss. Hinton said my proposal should be mission completed. Of course its not victory. I likened it to buying a $40 stock (IRQ) in 03, watching it go down to $15 and now back at $30. What to do? Well fundys in iraq dont appear as good as we thought when we invaded. Can we get back to $40 or even go to $50? Or should we cut losses now and let the company reorganize on their own? These arent easy questions to answer but i think the iraq bears make some good points. Even though the surge has worked militarily, it cant really be sustained forever. The investors (US) only have so much money and because of iraq the currency is losing value to boot. My inclination is to get our troops out of the crossfire. My inclination is to take the target off their backs starting now. Even though casualties are down now thats tactical because al sadr has backed off and the sunnis are in tactical alliance with us now. But what happense when the sunnis once again have to face the fact that they are the distinct minority in new iraq and never will regain power or even share it in a manner disproportionate to their numbers?? I think there is more of a chance for peace and security in the long run if the american card is played. It might be counterintuitive but i would ask you to think it thru.

It's not the (D)'s that are going to be withdrawing in the next year Nadine - it's the (R)'s! They're going to declare "Mission Accomplished" in time for the 2008 elections.

Of course, like every other year in Iraq, it all depends on what the Iraqis do. Even if AQ is "beaten" as you claim (doubtful-probably just laying back), every wannabe Saddam fronting every little militia will go for his shot as we withdraw.

I predicted several years ago that Al-Sadr would gradually grow political influence in Iraq until he is dominant, using his 'quiet' approach to assumption of power. No one took that serious a while back.

What say you all now?
