But in remote Alaska coastal villages they are considered food, and it's a more practical to eat a Bowhead whale than to import a shipping container of cute cuddly lamb carcasses from far away New Zealand. People have been importing products from other regions for thousands of years, but it doesn't make their cultures fake. Iridium satellite phones are quite handy for whale hunters.
