Longer term crime data.

This is just homicide not all violent crime. 1999 to present day you don't get much change. (the chart only goes up to 2004, but from the FBI reports you can see that there hasn't been a large change since 2004).

2000 and 2004 had the lowest rates since 1965. From 1950 to 1965 the rate was lower than the modern rates, but the difference is much smaller than the difference between the 70s, 80s, and early 90s on one hand and today's rates on the other. The rate was close to twice as high then, while today's rate is only around a quarter more than 1950 and 40% more than the lowest year on the chart (1957)

Even longer term homicide data

So today's rate is lower than the rate from WWI to Prohibition. To see sustained rates much lower than today's you have to go back to around the turn of the century. (The graph doesn't really show how sustained they are, but I believe that the 19th century rates where indeed noticeably lower)

What is wrong with you? Under Clinton the violent crime rate went from 757 to 506. That's a drop of 251 pts. Under Bush over nearly the same amount of time, the rate has dropped only 37 pts. Are you saw partisan that you can't see how more effective the Clinton economy was in reducing crime?

Correction

That should read

"The violent crime index would have to increase another 7% to equal Clinton's best year, and over 60% to equal the worst year in the dataset (1992)."
