Re: I'm not sure who you mean, but that wasn't me.

It must have been a different Dan3 I linked to.

I posted I expected both companies would head for single digits after AMD bought ATI and it became clear the general economy was in a world of hurt. So far I'm 1 for 2 but the next 2 years are going to be tough for everyone.

I guess 1 for 2 isn't bad. In your honor I hearby decree that any day AMD's share price collapses to multi-year lows and wallows in single-digits shall from this day forward be known as a "Dan3 finish".

It looks like the "Bacelona Bug" was pure FUD from short sellers - the whole story seemed to fade away.

Are the short sellers AMD employees? While hardware enthusiast sites are reporting on the story, it is AMD's own incompetence in handling the situation that is generating the public interest.

The stories might fade away for now, but what did you expect? Are we supposed to hear a daily update from major news outlets that Barcelona servers still aren't available from Tier 1 OEMs?

As far as Phenom is concerned the hardware enthusiast community, the people that might actually buy Phenom and recommend it to others, certainly haven't stopped talking about it.

Just a typical CPU launch, larded up with FUD from the ridiculous posters on this board.

Riiiight.

The "Bacelona Bug" has turned into the "Barcelona Plague" at Slashdot.

New York Times: A.M.D. Delays Energy-Efficient Chip Again

nytimes.com

Pretty good spin for AMD though:

Nathan Brookwood, a chip analyst with Insight64, said that it was not unusual for this kind of problem to appear and that he expected the impact on Barcelona customers to be minimal compared with past errata.

“The effect on customers using the patch will be they lose some performance,” Mr. Brookwood said. “But it won’t force A.M.D. to retrench.”

Yep, just a typical processor launch...perhaps even better than most.

The problem also affected the company’s Phenom processor, a desktop version of the chip, but A.M.D.’s workaround solution for that was issued before the product shipped, Mr. Taylor said.

Glad to see AMD kept everyone up to speed on the issues with Phenom before it even shipped.

Bloomberg: Advanced Micro Postpones Widespread Debut of Chips

bloomberg.com

(Perhaps Bloomberg should only assign authors to tech stories who know something about the technology they write about, or at least get someone who can do a good job of faking expertise.)

Advanced Micro Devices Inc., the world's second-largest maker of computer processors, delayed the widespread release of its newest server chip because it's running too slowly.

Some ``Barcelona'' chips had a glitch that led them to stop working, and the technology that fixes that makes them run more slowly, spokesman John Taylor said today in an interview. The chips will be widely available in the first quarter, he said...
