C2,

That will become more apparent as time goes by. Strangely, the US is still building more houses! We need to shift away from new construction toward soaking up the excess housing inventory.

Boston Fed concludes foreclosures are caused mainly by falling home prices, not subprime woes. Draw your own conclusions.

Now that's funny... with every mortgage I've taken out the documents I signed informed me that if I didn't pay that I would be subject to foreclosure.... I don't recall a clause that said "if your house doesn't go up 10% a year or more or god forbid goes down in price..it's okay to walk away from your debt obligation..."

Granted my Fico score is around 800, perhaps people with FICO scores of less than 600 and with no money down loans had docs that said "Party on bro...."
