I'll address your points below. You're not a rightie? That's not a proof that I'm a leftie. Try harder. You believe the govt should control the private sector? Actually, I believe the opposite. I'm closer to libertarian than Republican in my beliefs on gov't control. I want as little as possible and only in those places where it makes good economic sense. One place where all graduate economics students will tell you makes sense, is wherever we are trying to create a new market where barriers to entry are abnormally high. Alternative energy makes sense for the gov't to participate in at the early stages for this very reason. If you don't like gov't involvement in market dynamics, then why do you approve of the massive gov't subsidies for oil companies, including the $13 billion in tax breaks they are currently getting. Why won't the Republicans cut those, if they believe in small gov't so much? You bought algore's snake oil? I didn't buy Al Gore's snake oil. Al Gore is similar to an evangelist. He stretches the truth to make his point. Sound familiar? Bush does it all the time. What I did buy was only have an intense amount of research over the last 5 years. I've read about every publication and major research paper on CO2, it's impacts on the Earth, and the probable causes of CO2 rise. So I'm about as expert as a layman can be on this area. I came to the same conclusion that the global community of scientists came to, independently of Al Gore...namely, that the CO2 rise in the last 50 years is a definite trend outside the norm of the last 800,000 years, the trend is accelerating, the CO2 rise is primarily due to human activity, and the impact of this rise will be an increase in average global temperature, as well as climatic extremes that will cost humans billions, perhaps trillions of dollars over the next 50 years. That economic and cost to human life is a darn good reason to focus on mitigating the human causes of CO2 rise. I'm simply being practicalBtw, JFK would fit perfect in today's Republican party: "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" I don't think so. Go back and read longnshort's posts. He doesn't care about anyone but himself. The current Republican party is raping this country's treasury to pay their supporters, namely the oil companies. This Republican party is giving huge tax cuts away with no regard to our budget deficit. They are catering to a rampant entitlement mentality in this country, instead of to the true patriots who want to strengthen this country finances and economic and diplomatic clout.Today's progressive democrats: "Ask not what you can do for country but what you think the country owes you" So when Republicans want AMT relief without figuring out how to come up with the $50 billion to pay for it, you think that is doing good for this country when the budget deficit is at historic proportions? AMT was a Bill created to tax the wealthy. When the Democrats want to pass a Bill to provide relief for the Middle Class and shift the $50 Billion tab to the wealthy, the Republicans wouldn't agree to it, which forced a Bill that provides relief without paying for that relief. You think that is responsible? What hypocrites this current generation of Republicans are. You look nothing like the Republicans I grew up with and was proud to be a member of. There is only one word for you, and it's neo-con. You are simply not Republican.
