The problem is that U.S. is losing it's manufacturing sector.

That's a widely believed myth.

"Between 1977 and 2005, the value of American manufacturing swelled from $1.3 trillion to an all-time record $4.5 trillion, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis."

Also the US manufactures 2 and a half times as much as China, and 21% of the worlds total manufacturing output (Source: U.N. Industrial Development Org)

And manufacturing kept growing after 2005. 2006 was the all time top for manufacturing in the US (2007 data obviously isn't available yet)
