We discuss the costs of Iraq all the time Nadine.

Pre-war estimates:

Estimate by Wolfowitz - war will "practically pay for itself"

Estimated cost by Bush admin. - $50 billion.

Estimate that got Larry Lindsey fired - $200 billion.

Actual cost estimates currently:

$1.2 Trillion low

$3 Trillion high (with no END in sight)

Mission complete is plain and straight forward clear for English speaking folk.

There is not a nation or culture we are attempting to defeat in Iraq. Saddam's regime was defeated and that mission is long over. The US military has been on a new or at least evolving mission since 2003 and it is accurate to speak of it as being satisfactorily completed at some point, based on meeting the goals of our current ops to the satisfaction of the definitions of the current mission.

squeaking about victory in Iraq under the definition of our current mission is murky. Our mission is not to defeat Iraq but to support its current government toward a secure and relatively stable nation.
