Yes, temperature vacillates over time. That's not news. Millions of years ago crocodiles sunned themselves at the north pole. At another time the earth was a giant snowball.

But these temperature swings took a long time to establish themselves. It took place in geologic time.

What is different now is that climate is changing fast - over a period of decades. Not in geologic time, but in human time. That is what most people don't understand. And it's being driven by industrial processes.

Can civilization adapt itself to this sudden change? When croplands dry up, when rivers run dry, when climates shift, billions of people will be on the move. Where will they go? Maybe they'll come to your town.

If you're fine with all that, then no problem. Bring on the mass migrations and Arctic crocodiles!
