OK, I agree that it's hard to grasp geologic time. In fact, I find just attempting it to be in some way suffocating, as if I were buried beneath multitudinous layers of rock. But how much of hating of SUVs is based on the love of Gaia and how much on class envy? More compassionately, yes, it is painful to watch a patch of woods full of raccoons and deer and wild birds be bulldozed to make a road. Very. And yet, we put that aside and drive on those same roads.
