But invading countries on the off chance they might be developing nuclear weapons either now or in the future is just plain nuts. "You make it sound like they were rebels against "the church"." No. They were rebelling against the current power structures. Of which, the Church most certainly was. "Not something a bunch of secular free thinkers would say." Define "secular". Note the language, "creator". The Deists, who used that kind of language, believe in a God who is very different from the Christian God. Or most any others, for that matter.
