Are evangelicals running all the stores? No. Are they demanding stores play Christmas songs? No. Do most Christmas songs even have a religious theme? No. Are you a bigot looking for an excuse for the intolerant feelings you have? Yes.

I may well be biased against evangelicals but to assume my complaints are unfounded is your own bias.

Just exactly how are you imposed on by the religious right? They can't compel you to become a Christian. They can't make you celebrate Christmas. They aren't even able to keep you from aborting your kids if you want to. They can't keep Chris from visiting prostitutes. They can't punish you for having homo sex if you want. What exactly are they doing to you or preventing you from doing? I don't think you can name anything - I think you're just looking for an excuse for your intolerance.

They pushed the federal gov't to intervene in the case of T. Schiavo. Not only was it unprecedented and a wrong move, but it added to the already ridiculous budget deficit by having to pick up the cost of more than half of Congress flying back to DC during their August break and then flying home again. If that was the only time evangelicals have imposed their will on Americans and their taxes, it would be too much. As it is, that's not the only time.

Evagelicals are pushing for more displays of Christianity in the public domain. I am opposed to such an approach......

How would a nativity scene in a public park hurt you? Thats the public display that is usually mentioned in regard to Christmas.

It wouldn't hurt me....I'm Christian but it could well hurt a Jew, a Muslim or an Agnostic.

it was not the model for this country when it was founded and it should not be the model now as we become more religiously diverse.

First, the FF's did not object to public displays - they declared national days of prayer, thanksgiving and even of fasting. They set the standard of being sworn in on Bibles. They declared the basis for political equality and our rights rested on our Creator.

Second, the country isn't that religiously diverse. Someon on this thread pointed out we're about 75% Christian, at least nominally. And recent immigrant communities from Asia, Africa, and Latin America are majority Christian.

Twenty five percent is a sizeable minority. As a nation, we chose diversity, and so with diversity, we have to respect that one culture/ethnic group/race/religion should not and can not dominate the rest.
