RE:"As mining goes, nickel mining is one of the worst offenders and in a way that directly effects me, acid rain. This makes the Prius with it's current battery technology, increased cost to recycle and shorter expected life worse in terms of energy and resources from birth to death than those gas guzzling SUVs you think no one wants in CA (no one wants them but last time I was out there they were everywhere I went)."

Your right. It's all about feeling good while you muck up the environment.

like I said I think toyota restricts the number of Priuses they ship out here artificially to drive people to the more expensive models. Thats the whole issue, there have been some stories in the paper about it where somebody will go into a dealership for a hybrid and the minute they get there its a bait and switch to some huge expensive model. thats part of the reason CA wants these standards.

Theres an ad that runs here some kid with her dad in a big car, she says she doesn't want him to drive her to school because she's embarassed about the big car since all the other kids parents drive hybrids... he says its ok, this is a hybrid (hylander or something)... i take it this ad doesn't play in other locales.

ALl I am saying is this is what people here want.

btw we don't have that many IT big cos out here now. GOOG and AAPL are the biggies - I really don't consider those IT, those are advertising and consumer electronics. Cisco is still huge - that it IT.

OT

I think all those IT execs want a Prius to ameliorate the guilt from creating products that become technologically obsolete so fast that the pile of computer trash left is swallowing the world and filling up landfills at an alarming rate.

lol...no kidding, and i love how all the 'little tech' people working for them buy the PR hook, line, and sinker....(they jam those prius's down their throats with a $5k incentive if they buy one)

so while the google guys drive their prius for show, this is what they take for 'personal use' when they need to part-ay

Haven't heard about a dearth of Priuses out here. My friends got theirs just fine. It's a very popular car out here.

Now, most auto manufacturers have a hybrid or will by '09 and 10. I was just looking at Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, Porsche, Ford, Toyota, Honda, and all have hybrids. Some of those still have astonishing low mpg's. I'm pissed that my cars all have crappy gas mileage. Why does my Honda Odyssey get 16 mpg? That's ridiculous. Subaru raised their Outback XT a couple of inches, so that they could get around CAFE standards. That's supposed to be a car for environmentalists. Arrggggghhhh. My outback gets maybe 22, but I have a lot of crap on the roof.
