Automation can reduce the piecework cost very close to zero

Those poor emerging nations simply can't get a break. Here, before you know, the talk is already about putting them back out of business. ...But who knows - if they are as smart as advertised, perhaps THEY will outcompete us in the automation business?

It occurs to me that perhaps it is not a John Deere tractor robot that will be doing the heavy work in the future, but rather swarms of intelligent nanobots. Unless, of course, John Deere will be able to pull itself up by the bootstraps and invent a line of cute little nanotractors, all in camo colors.

In a post-manufacturing world we will all read novels, play chess, take walks - and sit by the computers and talk about stuff.... :)
