I would suspect palestinian christians left not only because of the perpetual state of war with israel and the matter of israeli occupation but because islamists and fatah alike viewed them as a threat for similar reasons to the iraqis. Just a guess, not expert on this.

That's true but according to the reports in the Israeli press there's an even bigger reason: fatah and hamas regards the Palestinian Christians as big fat rich helpless marks for extortion. They are being persecuted until they leave. Since they are more likely to have friends and relations already in the West, they can leave.

This story gets no attention in the MSM. Even the Wall Street Journal published a disgusted op-ed piece yesterday which claimed that Muslims and Christians always got on fine in Bethlehem but were suffering due to the Israelis erecting walls and checkpoints. The piece didn't mention that the walls and checkpoints went up to stop the snipers and the suicide bombers. The Tanzim were particularly fond of using Christian neighborhoods like Beit Jala as snipers' nests, knowing the Israelis would be more reluctant to attack Christians who were also helpless victims.
