Unfortunately, politicians are closely related to chimpanzees so they have a strong instinctive drive to be alpha male/female and dominate the others, taking what they want, beating up on anyone they want, making rules for the sake of making rules which have to be obeyed for the fun of watching the obedience and hopefully lack of it justifying attacks when desired: <Seems more like the governments just don't understand the virtues of letting people alone so they can make money.>

It is only politicians and their supporters who have got the relatively unusual genes which push towards co-operation, synergy, intellectual activity, exchange of value rather than establishment of force who are able to sway the body politic to create general ideological circumstances where such Virtuous Victorian Values as emphasis on self determination, property rights, science, thinking, learning, reason, work, thrift, saving, investing and spending wisely can survive.

Such Virtuous Victorian Values are not the normal culture around the world or even where such values were getting a foothold. Prudence is mistaken for prudery. Carpe diem is the call. Rap is the rhythm. The amazing human developments are being frittered by the dissolute who whine when the gap between them and the productive continues to increase.
