re."he's just dealing with a slightly more complex (and slightly more realistic) model of history than the simple Galileo-vs-Church one you're using."

Nadine ,those are big words with no explanation...please support your statement.

Please tell us about this more complex and realistic idea of yours ...otherwise one must assume its just big words...where is the meat?

Perhaps you might explain what Giordano Bruno was suggesting in the book that got him burnt at the stake.

A hint ...it was political... not scientific and involved a re alignment of european alliances.

pss re scientific establishment being dragged......

give us a break....who was it doing the dragging?????

Nadine, again you post crap without support.

Nadine ,you have to change your post #252504 since dithers has change his position from accusing the scientific establiment to accusing the mighty establishment.

<<He hasn't got it backwards, he's just dealing with a slightly more complex (and slightly more realistic) model of history than the simple Galileo-vs-Church one you're using.>>

He has got it backwards......

Dithers states....

<<Throughout history, the scientific establishment often has had to be dragged kicking and screaming into paradigm change>>

The scientific establishment DID NOT have to be dragged kicking and screaming into any paradigm change. The ESTABLISHMENT (i.e. church, politic) were the ones who had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the realization that they were trumped by science. The Catholic church apologized only a few years ago for the persecution it delivered upon Galileo with regards to charges of heresy.

What the heck is the slightly more complex and realistic model of history you're talking of?? Please explain.....

<<the increase for the last 100 years is 0.8 degrees Celsius. The rise from 1900 to 1940 was actually sharper>>

You are absolutely correct.....thank you for pointing that out. The anomalous rise in temps with respect to the long term trend is more easily seen if you look at the last 100 years versus the previous 900.

Note that the link points out the reconstruction methodology for each trend and the possible errors associated with each one. I just wanted to point out to you before you jump all over me that I'm fully aware of this.
