The charts of reconstructed temperatures from before 1850 are all done from proxies, and as I said before there is a big fight going on wrt to the reliability of tree rings as proxies. The GW crowd says the MWP was not warmer than today, but many other studies are coming out with evidence (usually less reliant on tree rings) that says it was 0.3 to 3 degrees C warmer than today.

One can safely say that these temperature charts are in flux.

What the heck is the slightly more complex and realistic model of history you're talking of?? Please explain.....

I was just pointing out that not only was the Church wedded to a geocentric model of the universe, but there was also a scholastic establishment wedded to a Ptolomaic view of astronomy.
