"Global Fortune 500. In the top 10 there are 5 US companies. "

We used to have all ten spots Elroy. I think Kate means we're falling behind where we USED to be. In MANY categories. Moral leadership springs to mind - kidnapping and torture will do that to a country.

Hi Elroy......good point about entertainment industry. That reminds me that we surely lead the world in pornographic output, too, so I guess I shouldn't fret about the future of the USA, should I?

You were asking about foreign brokerage services the other day. Wouldn't the largest money-center banks in each country offer such services to foreign investors?

More than half the stocks I buy these days are foreign, but I'm content with the ADRs. I trade alot so I want the liquidity and I want easy order entry. And when I look at the financials, I need conformity to GAAP or else I wouldn't know how to make comparisons within an industry group, for example.

I may add an emerging market fund this year that has good exposure to Africa, the Middle East, and smaller SE Asian countries.
