Rather childish Katelew [though quite normal these days, and it's easy to be drawn into such things]... <Looking ahead, as in anticipating, or envisioning, or sensing change in the air......something the reptilian brain structure of right-wingers have a hard time with. >

Even Nadine, who doesn't normally use terms of insult and abuse to do debating and reasoning "discusses" Ron Paul by saying "fruitcake".

Don't you think that without President Bush "demanding" vehicle efficiency, people turning up at petrol pumps will notice that it costs a LOT to fill 'er up these days? I have certainly noticed it.

There does seem to be some evidence that they have because the sales of SUVs have plunged. Small cars are more popular. Meanwhile, vehicle makers are going flat out to squeeze more fuel efficiency from vehicles to get people to buy them.

Perhaps the Dow Chemicals man doesn't understand market forces or is a hypocrite and is trying to appear "Green" which is very fashionable these days. It's easier to demand OTHER people be Green than oneself and one can still get Green credentials and the cloak of respectability by demanding of others than oneself. Look at Fat Al for example and all the others jetting off to Bali, staying in sumptuous accommodation, enjoying succulent food and no doubt conceiving more than just ideas while away from their families.

Or maybe you misquoted him. Got the wrong person. Misunderstood or something.

President Bush doesn't need to do anything. Another round of golf would be good. People won't buy $100 oil if they don't want to. They don't need him to make the decision for them. Or Mr President of Dow Chemicals either who should concentrate on doing less harm with his business.

How am I wrong about China? You are obviously confused again about what I think.

When people talk about chinas prospects they often fail to take into account the hazards and problems of managing a population of 1,300,000,000.

chinas population growth rate is .606% (cia hand book)

europe has a rate of around .35%...

america has a rate of almost .9%

who will support retirering workers?

what will happen when china experiences its first major recession as a free market economy?

google" chinas demographic timebomb "

"It's a market economy with an authoritarian government structure."

This is also a version of Fascism. It is a really efficient governmental form - ask the Germans.
