Please let us know what you find out with ASYT.

The only reason they might be cautioning you with ASYT is that their balance sheet shows negative "net tangible assets".

ASYT is probably a buyout candidate, as the price to sales is very low (.3). Too much overhead, which could be cut in a merger with a stronger company.

Carl, perhaps Scottrade and BofA are naked short ASYT and they don't want any extra competition trying to cover? Also, I think the practice is called "desking" and they can get in trouble with the SEC for desking orders to attempt to make extra profits. If they make it easier to sell than to buy a stock, then might convince some potential buyers to buy something else.... and thus profit more on their naked short position.

I'd be curious what you learn but I doubt they would tell you the truth as that would be admitting something possibly illegal.

Hi Eric,

I had the same problem with Aehr last year.

My broker (she is quite good IMO) simply wanted to point out that these low priced stocks are not marginal - they have a list of stocks that are in the status in their website.

I didn't make much of it - other than Roger is really careful not to get customers uninformed and possibly in trouble.I like Scottrade - I have a great rapport with my manager.

Bob

RE:
Rather than add to my frustration by climbing the ladder of people at either of these brokers, I called ASYT and spoke with an investor relations person there and explained my experience. He had no idea that was going on and was very interested in exploring this situation especially in light of the stock being so punished lately.

Does anyone have any insight on this problem, or a similar experience?

Eric, I had a similar experience with TXCC about a year ago. I could not buy the stock using Street Smart Pro, but had to use a broker at Schwab. When I asked why, I was told that there was too much manipulation with the stock. The volumes went from like several million down to 200-300k after this requirement was put in place. Looks like ASYT is getting clobbered partly because of this limitation when buying.
