Some of the most experienced politicians in foreign policy make some of the most horrendous foreign policy errors. Who would have thought that the Mujaheddin we supported in Afghanistan against the Soviets would morph into Al Qaeda? Experience in the chaotic world we live in does not mean much. A fresh perspective is a lot more valuable.

As for the young, they may not know much, but they vote, and that's what counts. In Iowa the number of Democratic voters almost doubled from four years ago. That's huge, and an ominous harbinger for Republicans, especially if we get a recession this year. Most of the new voters were young, and self-described independents. Obama got overwhelming majorities, especially among those younger than 24, who had never voted before.

I am not making value judgements here. I am simply stating facts.
