Leveraging is borrowing to use the money to buy or improve one or more other assets. Borrowing is borrowing.

Leveraging and borrowing amount to the same thing.

Exactly. That's why, IMHO, everything leveraged will take a hit. This includes finance, housing, autos, and yes, precious metals. The dollar will rise as the leverage employed by foreign entities will also lead to massive losses, making the dollar a relative flight to safety.
