1/11/08 update
Despite a lousy start for the general market, biotechs greeted 2008 with a smile. And at this week's close the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 2.35% YTD (compared to a not very welcoming -8.01% YTD loss for the Nasdaq Composite Index). Thankfully, the Charity Contest portfolios had a better start for the year. The Contest median closed up 1.38% YTD, not as good as the NBI but a formidable accomplishment given the overall market.
At week's end, 19 of the 33 Contest portfolios were in the black YTD and 15 were beating the NBI. Fastest out of the gate in 2008 was ROCKY9's portfolio (up 11.6% YTD, VPHM being the biggest gainer), with CASA (up 10.4% YTD, ITMN being the biggest gainer) close behind.
