Reminds me of a story Carl Sagan told about a woman after a talk who told him she believed the Earth was flat and supported by a giant turtle.

He asked her what the giant turtle was standing on.

Another turtle.

And what is that turtle standing on?

Oh, you're not going to trap me with that one. It's turtles all the way down!

he said life must have been sent to earth from another planet ...He said it was the only logical explanation.

Francis Crick, a confirmed atheist, wrote a book in which he said life must have been sent to earth from another planet - directed panspermia. He said it was the only logical explanation. IMO it was the best he could come up with and stay an atheist.

Guess he never took the next step in the analysis to ask how life originated on the other planet.
