"it should have been LEADING the Street."

Yes, it should have. The big problem is that it was pretty easy to see we were heading for a cliff. There have been numerous warning signs along the way. But, the ones in control apparently believe in the power of positive thinking...

To make sure we are talking apples to apples, "off a cliff" to me means the global economies, not their stock markets.

As I have stated before, we've been down this road before. Now granted, there are differences. But those differences are more likely to make things worse than ease the pain. All the similarities do is trigger the crisis, the differences are what will shape how the crisis plays out.

That really depends on the people in power. I don't have a lot of confidence in Congress and the president doing the right thing. Last week's stimulus package makes that very clear. I am hoping for better in November.

The question in my mind is who in their right mind would want to trigger a crisis.

I don't think Bernanke was intending to precipitate a crisis. I've said it before.......he's been behaving like a deer caught in someone's headlights. Its frustrating that we have so many weak links in power.
