TJ is now gorging in pork: Growth in Hong Kong

"We emphasize that the return of exports to the level of 600,000 tons, as well as better distribution of destinations, follows the reduction of participation with Russia in 2007," Camargo Neto said. "The highlight is certainly growth of exports to Hong Kong (17.5 percent). We believe that is a result of the issue of animal health in China."

Pork exports for the month of December increased nearly 44 percent in volume to slightly more than 63,000 metric tons, and surged by more than 86 percent up in value to $156.2 million compared to last December, ABIPECS said.

Russia was the No. 1 market for Brazilian pork and pork variety meat exports, accounting for more than 45.96 percent of total export volume (278.724 metric tons) and 54.23 percent of total export value (US$ 667.5 million) through December 2007. Hong Kong was the second largest market, with a 17.51 percent increase in volume and a 14 percent in value in 2007.
