Heck even in Apes the big fierce killer males (who survive) get the most females in their harems... True enough, but you are describing intra-tribal alpha male behavior. Very typical. I was referring to a warrior class of under males, who seemed to stage raids upon rival tribes for the sole purpose of the status that it gave them among their own tribe. More often than not, the raids produced nothing of value other than sheer in-your-face triumphalism. Methinks a certain subset of our population could benefit from the study of primate behavior instead of insisting that it has nothing to do with our own actions.
