I think that socialism tends to work in more homogeneous countries with a decent work ethic. Even so, most of those countries aren't truly socialist. In the US, a LOT of people are going to milk the system the more socialist we get.

Medicaid re-checks eligibility every so often. You have to show proof of income, etc. Generally its fairly tough to get coverage if you aren't female of child bearing age, disabled, or a kid. I should probably know the details, but I don't.

We understand that the US has debt of 72% of its GDP, Holland 52% and the UK 51%. And both spend much more on the health and welfare of their citizens.
