You know, I do agree with your view that few women are in a position to concurrently have a career and raise kids and that trying to do so can be harmful to the kids. What I'm trying to do is be constructive about mitigating if not solving the problem.

Women that I know who are successful have only one, maybe two children, follow the mommy track at work, use extended family, hire help, take jobs close to home, and/or don't try to keep up with the Jones's. "Bon-bons" wasn't a put-down of current stay-at-home moms. I'm sure they're almost all dedicated to parenting. It was a recognition that staying home will not necessarily turn moms into good moms, simply poorer ones. Imagine how much more inadequate those inadequate parents might be if they stayed home and still didn't parent. There was plenty of poor parenting prior to the women's movement. You may not remember it.
