"I don't know how you guys are coming to that conclusion."

Well, when the Republicans can't raise money, you have to know they are in trouble.

Big trouble. I can't recall any presidential election where even in the primaries the Republicans didn't raise more money than the Democrats.

It is extremely doubtful that the Republicans can snag many independents this time around. There is just nothing that appeals to them. And quite a bit that runs them off. And there isn't much reason to get any Democrats to cross over.

And the 33% behind Bush might not even vote for the likely candidate for the Republicans.

>I don't know how you guys are coming to that conclusion. Few if any of the national polls support your position. Pundits are saying that the RNC is in disarray but I see no evidence of that.

Huh? Some signs things are bad for the Republicans:

-15 percent of Republican congressmen are retiring

-There are a ton of Republican corruption scandals going on

-The President can't get an approval rating much over 30%

-The Republicans' House and Senate campaign committees are severely lagging their Democratic counterparts (by 3X and 7X, respectively), and even the RNC, which always raises much more money than the DNC, is barely ahead of the DNC.

-Other than Ron Paul, none of the Republican Presidential candidates ended 2007 with more than 3 million in cash on hand. McCain didn't even end up in the black. Obama and Clinton both had well over 10 million.

-Democratic turnout is way outperforming Republican turnout in the primaries.

-Democratic voter registration is far outpacing Republican registration (after being roughly equal in 2004)

-Steve Harris might support Obama :) Something is clearly wrong...

I could go on if you want me to...

I'm not one of those people that says that the Republicans are going to be in the minority for a long time, but 2008 is going to be the worst year for them since the early '70s.
