You are correct, Tim.

Iran has to import around 40% of their gasoline because of the government's meddling in their economy (taking away the profitability of their refining sector so they are short of refinery capacity).

They are far worse off in this area then the US is....

The US has the ability to project naval power further than Iran. China's rising navy will increasingly challenge American hegemony.

It is bad enough to have to import oil, but to have to import refined oil products is asking to cede our power and influence.
