(And that's not even including the possibility of nuclear escalation.)" The battle for Taiwan is much closer than you think. This is a battle that is playing out in the fears of Taiwanese citizens and China hopes to win it by forcing them to surrender. China prefers they surrender without direct military engagement, but will settle for a military conflict.
