If you’re the next generation of Democrat, trying to appeal to the centre of the country, Obama is your candidate.

That's a curious statement. When it comes to record, Obama's is the most liberal in Congress. The far left is voting for him because they perceive he is one of them.

Well.....not just the far left. It seems some of your peers like Obama as well.

I guess people see in Obama what they want to see, they project their (often contradictory) desires on him...

Not necessarily........I think they see a man who is trying to unite a very divided country. That may be more important to them than some of the issues.

what is your source for

<<When it comes to record, Obama's is the most liberal in Congress>>?

What some organization is putting out saying that is based on 2 votes and includes one on which Obama voted the same way McCain did.

But I'd like to see your source.

Hi Jozef,

Obama IS a centrist.

How he works = pulls diverse groups together to jointly solve problems; record shows him working with Republicans on hard problems like ethics reform

Healthcare = doesn't like mandates, that's a Republican position

Diplomacy = wants to focus on global challenges like China and Asia, not be myopic and focus only on the Middle East; while we're fighting the war on terror in the Middle East, China is waging the global economic war and cleaning our clock; this SHOULD BE a Republican position

Energy/Oil Independence = he has a big plan on this; this SHOULD BE a Republican position, because it indirectly helps us fight the war on terror, since we won't be funding both sides of it; not to mention that it makes economic sense, considering the price levels oil have risen to

Economy = he wants to rebuild the middle class; this SHOULD BE a Republican position; you can't have a viable Democracy if you don't have an upwardly mobile populace; if all you have is Rich and Poor, then the gap is to great to overcome and the power is in the hands of a few, instead of in the hands of the many

Taxes = check out his tax plan; he wants to dramatically simplify tax preparation; that is a Republican position too
