I grew up in the south and went to school for years in the northeast, where my experience mirrored yours. Overt racism was more present in Texas in the 60's and 70's but it mellowed some after that.

The Medford-Somerville suburbs of Boston still had some fierce local-ethnic-neighborhood racism ten years after that. Can't speak to what it is like now.

For all - Koan's banning isn't up for appeal. The thread header is very clear about that kind of thing; I exert some judgment and cut some slack now and then, but only so far.

Otherwise the thread would disintegrate to where most of us don't want to be.

I love East Tennessee and visit it regularly. Go to Johnson City and Jonesboro which is the capital of story telling.

Elizabethton.. too..

They like Boone have some of the most wonderfully friendly, warm and caring people... if you don't talk politics or religion. I have also become fond of blue grass other music peculiar to the mountains.

I have to see any part of this country besmirched but
I also like Koan and am sorry to have seen him banned.
