I don't think everyone here bashes Hillary. Dale doesn't have to like her, I think- does he? Mary likes her enough for everybody (sorry Mary, just a little joke there, not meant to be unfriendly.)

I don't see why Dale can't have his own opinion of Hillary.

She isn't my favorite candidate- but mostly that's because of how high her negatives are, and I'd like to put all the crap that rides along with the Clinton name behind us. That doesn't mean they DESERVE the crap, but life us very rarely about fairness, and usually about utility.

I know Hillary would do many of the things I would like, just as Obama would. For me it's all about who has the best chance of getting elected, and secondly, who I like best.

It wouldn't kill her to wear a dress every now and then ... would probably give her campaign a boost ... women look more regal in a dress ... if a man and a woman are both wearing pants the man usually looks better in them.

Well, ouch. I hate seeing myself as this dumb, unquestioning accepter of stereotypes.
But-

Stereotypes are one of those inevitable by-products of so many years in the public eye. I have also seen some pretty harsh ones of Bush here. Or maybe when one believes they are true, they don't seem to be stereotypical? I am guessing that for those of us here, whom I credit as being fairly rational thinkers, the stereotypes have enough fact behind them to go either way, depending on your reading of those facts.

I do feel Hillary brings a dark side with her. I don't like the return of the CLintons to the WH, and the concept of a co-presidency. I don't like all the baggage of her past. I don't like her very liberal views (which I am overlooking in Obama because I want what he brings). I don't like mandates in any form. But the most compelling reason that I prefer Obama, as I have reiterated ad nauseam, is the promise of hope and newness rather than a continuation of the ugliness and yes, paranoia, of the Bush and CLinton years.
And that is the part that Maureen Dowd nailed for me.

Kate,

Let me encourage you to hang around. I've enjoyed my conversations with you and looked forward to more.

On the business of getting "emotional," I think each of us who have been on this thread for some time, have done so. We stay because the thread, whatever our misgivings, nets out to a comfortable place to learn and share. Particularly for political junkies.

You sound like one of those.
